November is packed with cultural events! Make sure to write them all down in your agenda

Join us on Friday 29 November in the Czech Centre Rotterdam for the official opening of an international art exhibition reflecting on the contemporary socio-political situation 30 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The seven exhibiting artists are individuals coming from several European countries and, partly because of their different cultural backgrounds, they offer multiple perspectives on our society. Combine it with diverse artistic mediums and you get a vibrant, multidimensional show to look forward to. With live music!
Fashionclash Festival has just started in Maastricht and, like every year, a Czech representative is not missing. Natálie Dufková, a 24 years old fashion designer from UMPRUM Prague, studying in an atelier of Liběna Rochová, will present her SS2020 collection during her solo show in a Partners & Awards Showcase on Saturday 2 November.
On 5 November we are going to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia. Come and meet with us by the Masaryk's Memorial in Rotterdam which is celebrating its 4th anniversary.
The long neglected culture of Eastern European countries is rising and so is its small but powerful film industry. This year’s edition of ENFF is special also for the 30th anniversary of the communism regime collapse in 1989. One of the selected films is a drama called "Let There Be Light", revolving around topics such as the recent rise of right-wing extremism and xenophobia. We are supporting a presence of Marko Škop, the film's director, who will participate in a discussion after the screening on Saturday 9 November.
Between 16 and 17 November, the second season of the Iron Sky Film Festival in the Humanity House The Hague will explore a rise of far-right extremism in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. During this 2-day event, it will offer films directed by Slovak and Czech documentary makers. After the film-screenings, audience will get a chance to engage in debates and networking opportunities.
The annual International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam has once again selected a Czech film for its program. “Forman vs. Forman” is a documentary about one of the best Czech directors - Miloš Forman. Helena Třeštíková and Jakub Hejna created this collage portrait entirely from archive interviews, scenes from Forman’s films, visits to his film sets, or home-made videos shot by Forman himself. It will be screened at the IDFA 2019 in  the Masters' Section.
Since autumn is the film festival season in the Netherlands, there is even more for cinema fans to look forward to. For instance, Leiden International Film Festival will be screening Jiří Mádl's "On the Roof" on 4, 5 and 7 November. Moreover, Noordelijk Film Festival in Leeuwarden will present “A Certain Kind of Silence”, a Czech-Dutch film debut of Michal Hogenauer, starring e.g. the renowned Monic Hendrickx, on 10 November.
Ester Bednarzová and Natálie Hons have opened the first Czech school in Amsterdam that follows the "Curriculum framework". Every Sunday they welcome pre-school or first grade pupils with whom they focus on not only Czech language but also Czech manners, traditions etc. Workshops and educational programs for parents are to follow soon as well!
In addition, a theatrical adaption of “The Good Soldier Svejk” by Jaroslav Hašek is currently playing in  Badhuis Theater in Amsterdam.
Last but not least, fresh tips for bookworms: Voetnoot has published new books in its Moldaviet series. #27 is Marek Šindelka's "Blijf bij ons" (translator E. de Bruin) and #28 is "De naam" from Eda Kriseová (translator H. Geerts).
All the best and see you soon.
Tot snel!
