Newsletter: February 2020

Dear Tsjechisch Centrum ,

Go get your agenda because we are about to share with you our monthly update!

4 February 2020 is an important day for the Czech literature as it is the 200 years anniversary of the birth of Božena Němcová. A fresh Dutch translation of her novel De Schoolmeester (Pan Učitel, transl. Irma Pieper), which was enabled by the ongoing efforts of Stichting Babička, will be officially launched on 8 February in Nationaal Onderwijsmuseum in Dordrecht. You can expect a lively afternoon with guest speakers, music and much more.
Further information
In Amsterdam you can currently visit the annual exhibition Startpoint Prize, a talent show dedicated to European art school graduates which introduces the most outstanding emerging artistic generation. Startpoint.19 in Arti et Amicitiae presents nine international artists, one of them being Lenka Glisníková, a student of photography at VŠUP in Prague.
Further information
As usually, February is dedicated to one of the biggest local art events - Art Rotterdam Week. Between 5 - 9 February you can visit multiple fairs and exhibitions and we want to draw your attention especially to a double-exhibition: Magdaléna Ševčík and The Deafblind Artists of Maják. It is organized by Victory Art, an initiative supporting and promoting Eastern and Central European artists in the Netherlands.
Further information
On 4 and 27 February you can watch a performance combining music of Vítězslav Novák with "live" painting by Maryleen Schiltkamp. Together with a pianist Tobias Borsboom, who will play Novák's op. 43 Pan, you can see her in action in De Haagse Kunstkring.
Further information
Moreover, on the occasion of the Holland Dance Festival, theaters in The Hague and Rotterdam present series of performances starring Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), which were choreographed by its former artistic director Jiří Kylián. Sometimes, I wonder is an evening program dedicated to this powerful figure that left a significant mark in NDT’s history.
Further information
Last but not least, until the end of February you can still catch Ivan Passer's film Intieme belichting (Intimní osvětlení) in Dutch cinemas.

Stay tuned and see you soon!
